When choosing
fresh water pond fish for your backyard pond, you only have a few
choices. You can choose Fantails, Oranda Goldfish, Pond Comets, Koi,
Butterfly Koi and a few other fancy goldfish. All these fish are really
just different types of Goldfish. There are some rules that you should
follow, though, when using fresh water pond fish.
There are generally three groups of goldfish. Type 1 includes Pond
Comets and Koi. These goldfish swim faster, eat more, and will tend
to nip or be more aggressive towards fish in groups 2 and 3. Type 2
goldfish include Orandas and Fantails. These fish will swim faster and
eat more than the fresh water pond fish in group 3.
The goldfish in group 3 will swim the slowest and eat less food. They
are not aggressive and do not mix well with groups 1 and 2. These fresh
water pond fish might include Red & White Ranchu, Bubble Eyes, Lionheads,
and Celestials. It is best if you don’t mix the 3 groups at all.
You will have more contented and healthy fresh water pond fish if you
do this.
