Just
because your water is clear, doesn’t mean it’s clean. The
best way to have healthy, clear, clean water is with a Koi
pond filter designed for the specific needs of your Koi. Koi are
often referred to as “water pigs” because they produce a
lot of waste. This waste contains ammonia which can kill them which
is another reason why it is so important to have an excellent filtration
system. A biological and mechanical filter will be necessary for the
success of your pond. Mechanical filtration gets rid of all of the gross
stuff that you can see in your pond such as leaves, dirt, debris, etc.
Biological filtration gets rid of the poisons that you can’t see
that will kill your Koi.
Adding plants is another good way to protect your Koi. Plants act as
a natural filter by reducing algae growth. However, Koi love to eat
plants, so make sure your plants are strategically placed, perhaps with
netting around them, so that your Koi won’t eat them all up.
A pond skimmer (which is basically an additional filter) is another
great way to keep your pond clean so that you can enjoy your beautiful
Koi.
It is important to note that a stressful environment can cause your
Koi to get sick and die. Stress can be caused by moving Koi frequently,
overcrowding, water temperature, bad nutrition, dirty water, chemicals,
and much more. Keep your Koi alive and happy with a Koi pond water filter.
