Large pond
filters are necessary to help you control algae and other debris
in your pond. For the purposes of this article, we will be discussing
chemical and mechanical large pond filters. A chemical large pond
filter is a piece of equipment that holds a chemical medium, such
as carbon, and a basket or retainer bag.
A simple explanation of the chemical filter goes as follows: the
filter works by filtering the water through the cartridge that holds
the chemical medium. The medium cleans the water, the basket or bag
catches the debris, and sends the clean water back out to the pond.
A mechanical large pond filter does much the same thing, except the
mechanical filter uses pressure, air blowers, and other parts to clean
the water without the chemical medium. A mechanical large pond filter
will usually use a biological medium to clean the water as it filters
through the equipment. The size of filter you will need will depend
upon how many gallons that you have in the pond. Many pond owners
will combine all three large pond filters (chemical, mechanical, and
biological) to maintain the cleanest and healthiest water for their
pond.
